Why we're here!
On October 8th, 2023 I was involved in a freak accident where a close friend and I fell over an overpass retaining wall. This happened to be the Annie Glidden Overpass in Dekalb, IL. We ended up falling 17 feet and then being rushed to Kishwakee Hospital in Dekalb. While nurses and doctors were trying to save my life an airlift team was preparing to intercept me and take me to OSF St. Anthony's in Rockford, IL. While there I spent about a week in Nuero-ICU. I finally came home and received care for the next 2 weeks. I sustained the following injuries: Life threatening laceration to the liver, spleen, and pancreas, my 9th diagnosed concussion, severe whiplash, my left ulna was shattered (later operated on and now have a plate with 9 pins and screws in 10/10/2023), broken right elbow, severe tooth damage (12/26/2023) surgery to remove all teeth, (05/07/2024) surgery to place upper jaw bone grafts as well as 6 implants, I also fractured my L5 and have bulging discs (I received 2 cortisone shots, but they haven't been effective.) Soon I will be making the decision to fuse my L4, L5, and S1 together with 2 metal rods, pins, and screws. Due to the severity of the brain trauma I have lost 80% of my peripheral vision and have memory difficulties. I have been in the following treatments since I woke up in the hospital: Occupational therapy, Physical therapy, Speech therapy, Concussion therapy, Massage therapy, and Talk therapy. While I still am struggling medically today, I have learned that everyday that I wake up is a blessing. Remember to always look on the bright side and remember that if you're looking at something too close you might need to take a step back and find a new perspective! In late January, I found out that due to my injuries I will never be able to safely play Lacrosse again. This shattered my heart and by far was the worst pain that has ever been inflicted during this recovery time. As I began to think, I realized this wasn't the end to my Lacrosse career and I needed to find a new perspective myself! Here we are!!!
Thank you for reading all about my story and why we're here!
